Furniture

Furniture is the area of cabinet making we are most passionate about. The design process, the timber species and selection, choosing which joints to use for a specific application or design choice, even what hardware to utilise really gets our juices going.

The possibilities in furniture design and techniques only go as far as your imagination. Our design inspiration comes from such varied backgrounds as the Shakers and Arts and Crafts movement of the 19th century, to modern Japanese, Scandinavian and even Korean Furniture makers. We use this to influence our design philosophy.

Bespoke to you

The furniture we make here is truly bespoke furniture. Each piece is designed and drawn with your input, with your style, space and aesthetic all added in to the design.

Whether it’s an Arts and Craft style desk that is made around a lifetime interest in the movement, or an unusual sideboard that plays with different dimensions and traditional layout ratios, we really can hone in on that piece of furniture that truly represents you.

About the craft

For Ross the craft of furniture making is an ongoing quest into discovering the art itself. Researching past fashions and design periods, what inspired the originators of these famous periods and what they stood for has really helped us to develop our own design aesthetic and values.

This is something we have come to realise is a constantly evolving and unfolding state. For Ross it’s about developing his own skill set, both in the physical making of a piece and also in designing pieces that fit into an evolving set of principles.

The foundation of these principles are simplicity, functionality and honesty. A table, as an example, is made to be used, to be a functional daily piece of furniture that is interacted with everyday. From large family gatherings to intimate dinner parties, to a bowl of cereal with the kids or homework after tea. From toddlers getting a bit trigger happy with felt tip pens, to a spilt glass of wine; we believe a great table is a table that has lived its life as part of your life, that has the battle scars to prove it.

Our aim is to provide a piece of furniture that can do this and still be a beautiful thing in its own right. Something that every now and then gets noticed, gets a well deserved nod of recognition. Our belief is that beautiful furniture doesn’t have to be something that is to be protected from use, from wear and tear, something you put in the corner and are afraid to touch for fear of damaging it. It’s furniture that is well designed, strong, can take the knocks that come with life, and looks all the better for it.
